The 3 mistakes of my life – a book review

a book review(sort of)…n a li’l late i guess..had read it more than a month ago!

….if u’d liked the previous two books of Chetan Bhagat….u’ll definitely love this one too…..

His latest book….”the 3 mistake s of my life”…..is really his ‘3rd success in life’ as a writer, of ‘pucca’ Indian style.And like the previous two books, “5.someone” n “one nite @….”….this too makes good movie material…..typical Indian masala flick with a good balance of emotions, youth, love and friendship….n all this in the backdrop of our Nations stereotype settings that shape up the lives of the protagonists of his stories.

If ‘5.some1′ was flavoured with IIT life, ‘one nite @…’ was abt callcenters n night shifts….his latest offering has a mixed masala flavour….with ‘business, cricket, natural calamity and religious politics’ being the back drop of the events that shape up the lives of 3 friends,living in Ahmedabad.Only that this time they aren’t IIT’ans, or Call center executives, but dropouts…from diff family backgrounds….aspiring to make it big by starting a business of their own.’Gujarat is a place where businessmen are respected n envied more than working proffesionals’,says Govind, who narrates the story,in flashback mode.

Well,they start up with a shop selling Cricket goods,’The team India shop’….n also find a hyper-talented boy Ali, who they think can make Indian cricket proud…n in the course of the few years thats the story depicts, we see their lives interveined with some turning points – 26th Jan 2001 to start with(the Gujarat earthquake…..if u’d remember that) – India-Aus test match at Eden gardens(Mar 2001) – and Sept 11,2001 -  and then the “Godhra train burning”….n ‘Gujarat riots’….. Interveined with all this is their business,passion for cricket n’ patriotism, n love n’ friendship…..

So that makes it a racy entertaining read……if u wouldn’t mind the superfluous usage of the  ‘F’word throughout the narrative n’ a little love making,(as in his previous two stories too..).n then a little too much blood n gory depicting the riots..,(but all these…not too much, considering the kind of movies tht come out these days….)
